Wellness Center Staff
Dr. Paqui Motyl, MD, PharmD – Medical Director
Dr. Paqui Motyl’s responsibilities include medical leadership, clinical oversight and direct patient care. Dr. Motyl has over 20 years in both the pharmaceutical and medical professions. She plans to draw on her rich experience as a pharmacist, physician and previous medical director roles to launch the Electric Boat Family Wellness Center. Dr. Motyl received her Bachelor’s in Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island. Her diverse pharmacy career was highlighted by designing and implementing the first pharmacy at Brown University Health Services. She continued working as a pharmacist while attending the University of Vermont Medical School and graduated first in her class. She completed a combined four-year residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her residency, she was honored to receive the UNC Medical School Fordham Teaching award from the medical student class. She returned to New England and has been professionally successful in several practices including emergency room, urgent care and primary care as well as age management and aesthetics. She is excited to have the opportunity to provide excellent healthcare to the Electric Boat employees and their families.
Timothy Lassiter, PA-C – Physician Assistant
Timothy is a Physician Assistant who has been practicing in the field of medicine for 22 years. His experience ranges from battlefield medicine as a Navy Corpsman to primary care. He has also worked in Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine and has specialty certifications in pediatrics, geriatrics, and women’s health. He is looking forward to meeting and caring for members of the Electric Boat community!
Louise Tyler, APRN – Nurse Practitioner
Louise is thrilled to join the staff at Electric Boat Wellness Center/Premise Health. She has worked in healthcare for over 30 years in several area hospitals and both inpatient and outpatient settings across the specialties and as adjunct faculty. She trained in Boston hospitals while at Simmons College for Nursing, and later the University of Hartford and University of Saint Joseph. A Family Nurse Practitioner past 6 years, Louise's passion is in serving the community, promoting health, wellness and personal flourishing.
Melissa Cowen, BSN, RN – Condition Management
Mel comes to the wellness center with 29 years of nursing experience. In 2008, she received the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. Additionally, Mel has extensive experience in asthma and diabetes education. She has a published article in the Journal of Asthma and also studied to become a Certified Diabetes Educator. In addition, she is also a certified personal trainer and lifestyle coach. She is looking forward to building relationships with members of the EB family and helping everyone get, stay, and be well!
Kai Aboulian, P.T., A.T.C. – Physical Therapist
Kai is a nationally regarded physical therapist and athletic trainer with over 20 years of experience in rehabilitation and outpatient orthopedics. He treats patients with all kinds of orthopedic and sports related injuries, as well as post-op patients. He has worked for large hospital systems including Cleveland Clinic as well as several professional sporting teams such as the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Phillies, and New England Patriots. Additionally, he worked for the 2002 Winter and 2004 Summer Olympics. He currently serves as the team physical therapist and athletic trainer for Wesleyan University Football team and the Yale University football and Lacrosse team. He is also a consultant to several players from NFL and MLB for their treatments and prevention of injuries throughout, in- season and off-season training. Kai is excited to treat members at the EB Family Wellness Center. He believes in delivering the highest level of care to the EB Family Community.
Mary Karner, RN – Health Center Manager
Mary is originally from the Midwest and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Ball State University, located in Indiana, in 2012. She began her career in the emergency room of a busy trauma center and then subsequently worked as a travel nurse in several different ER’s around the country. Additionally, she worked in a trauma intensive care unit to gain more critical care experience. Eventually, she moved back to where she began her career and became a Shift Coordinator in the ER subsequently moving into the role of Clinical Operations Manager where she has spent the last two and a half years. It was here that Mary found her passion for supporting, caring for and growing healthcare teams to take the best care of patients possible. Mary has since moved to Connecticut to be close to her family and is grateful for the opportunity to start a new, exciting journey with the Electric Boat Family Wellness Center staff.
